A Letter to The Muslims Around The World

I just heard about the recent incident in which 12 people shot dead in the office of French satirical magazine, Charlie Hebdo. My deepest sympathies to all the victims of the attack.

The news said that the background of the attack was “a revenge for the Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h)” since the magazine made a satirical caricature of the Prophet (p.b.u.h.). Unfortunately, the attackers didn’t just made the revenge, they betrayed the European muslims.

European used to have a bad point of view on Islam. There are even many cases of Islamophobic. But, there are many of muslim artists, scholars and priests built the image of Islam through their works, intellectuality, modesty, and the beauty of Islam for decades. Time after time, the image of Islam in Europe got better, the number of muslims grows very much, and people have a better tolerances to muslims.

Now imagine all those hard works of our fellow muslim gone just because one stupid attack by people who think that they are avenging their religion. There will be many chances that more hatred are pointed to Islam. People also will start to distrust muslims again. Muslims be excommunicated again. Imagine what the attackers did to our religion, to our Prophet (p.b.u.h.), to our Almighty God, Allah s.w.t.

I personally condemn this attack. Islam condemns criminal like this. We are supposed to avenge with any other ways but attacks, there are many other ways to avenge! Remember that Islam were supposed to be beautiful. It’s supposed to be peaceful.

Here is a song from Michael Jackson. I think it’s perfect for the situation. Let’s heal the world. Let’s make it a better place. Let’s bring peace.

This post is a part of my Blogging 101 course. This post is for my dream reader, all muslims around the world. I hope that you can help me to spread the beauty of Islam, I hope you can help me avenge our religion not by crime, but with peace and beauty.

  1. Wow, that’s very powerful. I am not Muslim but I want you to know that I don’t blame Islam or Muslims for this. These are the unspeakable actions of two men who blame their atrocities on a gentle religion, and these two men must be held accountable, not Islam. I hope the world at large stands together without pointing fingers at religion.
