You may have felt, at least once in your life—probably more—that you have not enough control of your life, that you don’t have enough time to get things done. Or maybe you find yourself struggling to get into the day. Well, it probably came from your bad morning routine.
Sometimes, a bad morning routine also makes you unproductive for the rest of the day. It could also get you into a bad mood. It may stress you out. Morning routine is very critical for days you are about to get through. And that’s why you should change your morning routine for good.
So now you wonder how to fix your morning routine. What I’m about to tell is actually quite simple to do. But if you do it right and consistently, it will get you greatness, it will change your life for good.
1. Get A Good, Enough Sleep The Night Before
It’s actually not a thing you should do in the morning. But if you don’t have enough quality sleep the night before, the rest of this post is useless to do. Believe me, sleep is very important and should be on your top priority.
Besides, good and enough sleep will bring you goods such as: longer life, increased productivity, increased creativity, increased attention, less depression, less stress, and many more.
So may be asking how much sleep you should get. Some people say it’s best to sleep in a multiples of 1.5 hours. But I suggest you to get 7+ hours of sleep every night. However, I advise you to sleep no more than 9 hours since too much sleep will do more bad than good.
2. Get to Bed Early, Rise Early
People said that the early bird catches the worm. It’s also a proven proverb. Almost all the successful people wake up early so they can do more in the morning. Morning is also said to be the best time to get things done.
So, I suggest you get to bed early so you can get enough sleep and rise early. I usually get to bed at 10 and wake up at 5.
If you wonder why you should wake up early in the day, there’s a long list of benefits you can get if you rise early. You can have more time in the morning to plan out your day. You can enjoy your time and you don’t have to rush to get ready for work. You can also benefit from a fresher air, since there are less air pollution in the morning. A quiet time in the morning can also be used to do something productive. And there are still so many reasons to get up early in the morning.
3. Meditate, or Pray
Meditation is very helpful to clear your mind from distracting things. It can also help you to condition your mind for the day. It also doesn’t require much time, just 5-10 minutes a day is enough.
I’m a Moslem and I always have a prayer in the morning, instead of meditation. It has the same effect with meditation, I can clear my mind and get ready for the day. Being grateful to the God for your life can also calm you and bring peace to your mind.
4. Get Your Body Moving
Not only your mind, you also need to get your body ready to take on the day. A few push-ups is enough. I usually do some stretching too. Or I have a plenty of time, I usually go for a run in the neighborhood.
Besides some health benefits, doing some exercises in the morning will give you energy boost for the day. It helps your body to wake up. Exercises will also help you to get a better night sleep.
Don’t forget that exercise will make your body releases more endorphin too, it will make you happy and ready for the day. So, no more lazy morning. Get up and get your body moving
5. Eat Good Foods
If you’ve been skipping breakfast. Don’t do that anymore! I think breakfast is the most important meal because it fuels you for your day. A good breakfast means a good, productive day.
You may think that fast foods you grab on your way to workplace is good. But you’re wrong! It may get you full but it won’t give the energy your body needs.
Instead, get some a good food—real food—in the morning. You should eat protein-packed food since it will give you more energy than carbs. For easy, healthy, and fast breakfast, I suggest cooking some egg. Smoothies is also easy and delicious too. I plan to post some breakfast recipe in the near future so you can get some idea.
6. Wash Yourself In Cold Shower
Cold shower is good for your health. If you do it every day, it will give a long-term health benefits, including but not limited to stronger immune system, better circulatory system and digestive system. It also helps you increase your metabolism, leading to a weight loss.
It also helps your mood, reducing your stress, therefore makes you happier. Besides, immersing yourself in a cold shower will also reduce anxiety and depression.
You may get freaked out in the beginning. It also takes willpower not to turn on the hot water handle. But don’t worry, just step up into that cold shower and you’ll feel fine 10 seconds later. I even find cold shower refreshing and helpful to set my mood for the day.
7. Read Something Good
Keeping yourself well informed is important. Most successful people succeed because they are well informed, because they know about a lot of things. Therefore, I think it’s important read and learn something in the morning. Whether it’s your favourite newspaper or magazine, a motivational book or a novel. It doesn’t matter, just read.
Reading also has its own benefits. Besides keeping you well informed and knowledgeable, it stimulates your brain, therefore makes you smarter. It helps your brain to stay active. It’s like workout for your brain. It makes your brain stronger.
If you don’t seem to have a time to read or if you just don’t like to read, try to listen to audiobooks. It has the same effect as reading. No matter what, never stop to learn and you’ll be able to see world in different way.
8. Plan Out Your Day
Now if you want a really productive day, try to plan your day ahead in the morning. Review what you’ve done yesterday and seek how you can do better today. It’s very helpful to have full-control on your life.
Check your to-do lists, add something you want to do today, when to do it, and how to do it. Trust me, it will give you high productivity boost. If your day is well-planned, you won’t get into the day unprepared. You will do your best for the day. You’ll be more productive.
You should also make sure that what you’re gonna do today will get you closer to your goal. Make sure it suits your vision. Or else, you’re going to waste another day.
9. Tackle Big Thing First
In the morning, try to do your hardest task first. You have full energy in the morning and it will make it easier to tackle your hardest task. Never mind those emails, they can wait. If you don’t tackle the big thing first, you’ll already be too exhausted to do it later in the day. Therefore, it won’t be done by the end of the day or it will be done just not with a good result.
